Mineral water therapy is an important aspect of treatment in Belarus, because mineral water is a sip of health, so simple, but how useful it is!

Nature takes care for people in Belarus, it gives them many unique sources of mineral waters. It is worth noting that mineral water is the water that contains more than 1 g. of salts per 1 liter, it is characterized by a high amount of biologically active components and has a healing effect on the body. Mineral table water (with a salt content of about 2–3 g per 1 liter) and healing-table water (more than 5 g per 1 liter) are used for drinking cure, while water with a salt content of more than 10 g per 1 liter is called curative and, as a rule it\'s used for external treatment.

Useful properties of mineral water and its healing effect depends on the chemical content, where the number of anions (chlorides, sulfates, hydrocarbons) and cations (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) plays the main role. Based on the composition there are bicarbonate, magnesium, sulfate, chloride water, and mixed water type.

  • Hydrocarbonate mineral water helps to restore the impaired water-salt balance, doctors in the health resorts of Belarus recommend it to people suffering from diabetes and kidney disease.
  • Magnesium mineral water is useful for stress and nerve stay, as it has a sedative effect.
  • Sulphate mineral water ensures the normal functioning of the liver and biliary tract, doctors prescribe it for liver diseases, gallstone disease and intestinal obstruction.
  • Chloride mineral water is useful for people with low acidity, because it contributes to the development of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and also normalizes the gastrointestinal tract conditions.
  • Mixed water types are the most common.

Chloride-sodium and sulphate-chloride-sodium mineral waters are especially common at the territory of the Republic of Belarus. They are successfully used in health resorts for treatment of digestive system diseases, gall bladder, urinary tract and metabolism. Some mineral waters in Belarus have become its brand, you can buy it bottled in stores - «Borovaya», «Narochanskaya», «Letchanskaya», «Lesnaya».

The effect of treatment with mineral water depends on its composition, temperature, time and methods of drinking. It is prescribed by a doctor taking into account the disease, its phases, as well as the presence of concomitant diseases. As a rule, doctors recommend to use about 30 mg of water for every kilogram of body weight, which for an average person is about 200-250 mg. Water is usually taken 3 times a day, and the full course of treatment is usually 21 days.
 It should be remembered that it is not necessary to increase the dose of mineral water yourself, because it can cause undesirable side effects and lead to an aggravation of the underlying disease. Most often warm mineral water (38-50°C) is prescribed for drinking treatment; it relieves muscle spasms of the internal organs, which is especially important for diseases of the digestive organs and kidneys.
